xKingsman: The Secret Service, which is based on a comic series called The Secret Service by Dave Gibbons and Mark Millar, came in at the top at the Box Office for movies based on books this week. It came in fourth, followed by 50 Shades of Grey in sixth, and The DUFF came in ninth.

 

 

Opening this week at the Box Office includes a live action version of Cinderella, which follows Ella after the untimely death of her Father and she falls into the mercy of her evil step Mother. Refusing to lose her optimism, Ella’s fortunes changes when she meets a stranger in the woods.

Suicide Squad, which is based on the comic book team which first appeared in Legends #3 in 1987, has been garnering some attention via casting of actors to play the incarcerated supervillians who are recruited with the promise of commuted prison sentences by the Government to participate in high-risk black ops missions. Joel Kinnaman is rumoured to be playing the main character, and Jared Leto has cut off his beautiful mane to play the Joker. So far is has been confirmed that Margot Robbie will be playing Harley Quinn, Will Smith was cast as Deadshot, and Viola Davis will be playing Amanda Waller. New-SQ_cover

 

Comic books

For any fans of Groot from Guaridans of the Galaxy, you are in luck! Marvel has announced that Groot will be getting his own comic series, which will be set when Rocket and Groot are seperated and Groot is on his own for the first time in years. This obstacle has writer Jeff Loveness, who will be penning the comic, digging deep to find comedy in the story of a character who says roughly 3 words every now and then.

 

 

 

 

Television

AMC has announced that The Walking Dead spin off is slated to start, and also has the okay to do two seasons. The show, which still unnamed, has plans to premier it’s first six episodes at the end of summer. The show will be based on Los Angeles, and will star Cliff Curtis (Gang Related), Kim Dickens (Deadwood), Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) and Alycia Debnam Carey (Into the Storm).
