In the second movie in the Harry Potter movie saga, Harry is back at the Dursley’s for the summer when he gets an unexpected visit from a House Elf by the name of Dobby who comes to warn Harry about dangers that will be happening at Hogwarts in the coming year.
Thanks to Dobby creating a scene at Harry’s Uncle Vernon’s important business dinner, Harry is locked in his room for the rest of the summer and Uncle Vernon threatens to not let Harry go back to Hogwarts. Finally, Ron Weasley, along with his brothers Fred and George, come to save Harry in a flying car that their Father bewitched.
The group goes to buy their textbooks in Diagon Alley, where they meet the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, Gilderoy Lockhart. They also run into Draco Malfoy and his Father, Lucius, who may have slipped something into Ginny’s cauldron without anyone noticing.
Later, Harry and Ron cannot get through to the Hogwarts Express. They decide to fly the car to Hogwarts, as they fear that since they cannot get through to the platform that Ron’s parents cannot get back through to them. When they finally reach the school, the car crashes into the Womping Willow (during the crash Ron’s wand is broken) and runs away into the Forbidden Forest.
For the most part, things are normal at Hogwarts after Ron and Harry crash the car into the Womping Willow. Although, during his detention for running into the tree, Harry hears a voice that no one else can hear. He follows the voice, and finds a warning stating that the Chamber of Secrets has been opened along with a petrified Mrs. Norris.
The story goes that when the school was founded by Godric Gryffindor, Salazar Slytherin, Helena Hufflepuff and Rowena Ravenclaw, Slytherin didn’t agree with the others that they should allow just any young witch or wizard in. He decided to leave Hogwarts, but not before he had built a secret Chamber with a monster inside that the Heir of Slytherin would be able to control and rid the school of those Slytherin deemed unworthy of being at Hogwarts.
The Golden Trio decide to brew some polyjuice potion to pretend to be Malfoy’s henchmen, Crabbe and Goyle, when they suspect he may be Slytherin’s heir and during the time it takes to brew the potion: more people are petrified, and Harry is suspected to be the heir of Slytherin when it becomes known that Harry can speak parseltongue.
They find out that Malfoy isn’t the heir of Slytherin, and he doesn’t know who actually is the heir. But, he does tell Ron and Harry that a student died the last time the Chamber was opened. Later, Harry and Ron find the diary of Tom Riddle who shows Harry how he saved the school 50 years previously when the Chamber was originally opened.
With the threat of closure hanging over Hogwarts after Hermione is petrified, Ron and Harry set out to close the Chamber after Ginny is taken into the Chamber to die. They bring along Professor Lockhart, thinking that he might be some help against the beast. But, in the end, Harry fights Voldemort for the second time at Hogwarts and kills Slytherin’s beast.
