It’s that time of year again! The end of February has me eagerly awaiting the Oscars, as this is one of my favourite annual posts that I do. It’s a night to honour the movies, and all of the people that made it their lives work to entertain.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them won for Best Costumes, Suicide Squad won for Makeup, Moonlight won for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor (Mahershala Ali) and for Best Picture,  Arrival won Sound Editing, and The Jungle Book won for Sound Mixing.

With Jimmy Kimmel hosting, who did a good job as far as I’m concerned, the Oscars took the time to honour the people involved in making the movies. They also spoke out about the political mess that is the States, and the chance to honour hidden figures that this years films brought to light.

The ongoing joke between Kimmel and Matt Damon made me laugh throughout the show, which surprised me. Kimmel attempted to play Damon off while he was presenting Best Original Screenplay, said he was mediocre during a segment that had actors thanking actors for inspiring them, and many others.

As always, the musical performances were some of the highlights of the show. Not as tear jerking as Lady Gaga’s performance last year, but all very well done throughout the night.
